The NFL’s 4 p.m. ET deadline on Tuesday saw teams across the league refine their rosters from 90 players to a leaner 53, dramatically reshaping lineups ahead of the 2023 season. This crucial cutdown has left no shortage of notable names on the sidelines.
Baltimore Ravens Make Tough Decisions
Among the teams making significant moves, the Baltimore Ravens released several players across various positions. Wide receivers Sean Ryan, Russell Gage, and Anthony Miller found themselves cut, along with tight ends Mike Rigerman, Riley Sharp, Qadir Ismail, and Scotty Washington. The Ravens' cuts didn’t stop there; offensive linemen Tashawn Manning and Darrell Simpson were also shown the door.
On the defensive side, the Ravens parted ways with defensive lineman Tramel Walthour and cornerback Damarion "Pepe" Williams. Special teams took a hit with the release of punter Jack Browning. Additionally, quarterback Emory Jones and running back Chris Collier were also cut as the Ravens trimmed their roster.
Broncos and Packers Make Notable Cuts
The Denver Broncos also had their share of tough calls, cutting linebackers Jonas Griffith and Jaylon Allen, as well as wide receiver Jalen Virgil. Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers were also active in reducing their squad. Offensive lineman Royce Newman and offensive tackle Caleb Jones did not make the cut, and quarterbacks Michael Pratt and Sean Clifford joined the list of released players.
The Packers' roster adjustments further included releasing kicker Anders Carlson, wide receivers Jalen Wayne and Samori Toure, and defensive lineman Kenneth Odumegwu.
Texans and Raiders Shed Talent
Cornerbacks Mike Ford, Lonnie Johnson Jr., and C.J. Henderson were among the cuts made by the Houston Texans. The team also let go of wide receivers Noah Brown and Quintez Cephus, safety Desmond King, quarterback Tim Boyle, and wide receiver Jaden Janke.
Over in Las Vegas, the Raiders released quarterbacks Carter Bradley and Nathan Peterman, shedding depth behind their starting signal-caller. Wide receiver Jeff Foreman and defensive back Wood Governor also didn't make the cut for the Raiders.
Saints, Jets, Eagles, and Seahawks Make Tough Calls
The New Orleans Saints made some noticeable cuts, releasing defensive end Niko Lalos, wide receivers Samson Nacua and Equanimeous St. Brown, and linebacker Khaleke Hudson. The Saints also parted ways with punter Lou Hedley, safeties Roderic Teamer, Lawrence Johnson, Ugo Amadi, and Johnathan Abram, along with kicker Charlie Smyth. Their roster adjustment extended to the offensive line, cutting Josiah Ezirim, Tremayne Anchrum, Shane Lemieux, center Sincere Haynesworth, and defensive end Trajan Jeffcoat.
The New York Jets trimmed their roster, releasing defensive back Tre Swilling, running back Xavian Valladay, and tight end Neal Johnson. The Philadelphia Eagles followed suit, cutting wide receiver Parris Campbell and quarterback Will Grier. Tight ends E.J. Jenkins and C.J. Uzomah, defensive back Parry Nickerson, and guard Max Scharping were also released.
Seahawks and Buccaneers Navigate Roster Challenges
The Seattle Seahawks made significant moves by cutting tight ends Tyler Mabry and Michael Ezeike, wide receivers D'Wayne Eskridge and Easop Winston, and defensive ends DeVere Levelston and Jamie Sheriff. The Seahawks also released defensive tackle Mario Kendricks, linebackers Easton Gibbs, Jon Rhattigan, and Devin Richardson, safety Ty Okada, running back George Holani, and defensive back Willie Roberts.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cleared space by cutting wide receiver Sterling Shepard, defensive lineman Eric Banks, and linebacker Randy Gregory.
Commanders Refine Their Roster
The Washington Commanders also made hefty cuts. Defensive ends Andre Jones and KJ Henry, wide receivers Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint and Brycen Tremayne were among those released. Additionally, wide receivers Martavis Bryant, Mitch Tinsley, and Davion Davis, and running backs Chris Rodriguez and Michael Wiley were shown the door.
The Commanders further cut cornerbacks Chigozie Anusiem, A.J. Woods, Nick Whiteside II, Tariq Castro-Fields, and James Pierre. The list of released players also included guard Julian Good-Jones, center J.C. Hassenauer, linebacker Bo Bauer, defensive back Ben Nikkel, and kicker Riley Patterson.
