On February 13, 1954, Selvy etched his name into the annals of basketball history by scoring 100 points during a 145-95 victory over Newberry in Greenville. In that remarkable game, he netted 41 field goals and 18 free throws, a record that continues to stand as a testament to his scoring prowess.

Selvy's collegiate career, spanning from 1952 to 1954, was marked by extraordinary performances and accolades. He led the NCAA in scoring twice and, as a senior, averaged an astonishing 41.7 points per game. Selvy scored 40 points or more in 22 of his 78 college games, consistently demonstrating his offensive capabilities.
